Green Bay Bishop David Ricken to Restore Sunday Mass Obligation
Bishop David L. Ricken, leader of the Catholic Diocese of Green Bay, is reinstating the Sunday Mass obligation as of Sunday, August 15th.
Having given a general dispensation from the Sunday Mass obligation during much of the pandemic/shut down period, the bishop believes that now is the time to bring people back to Church:
“As the number of cases associated with the COVID-19 virus continue to diminish in the 16 counties of the diocese, after much discernment and consultation, I have decided to reinstate the obligation to attend Sunday Mass effective on August 15th, the Solemnity of the Assumption of Our Lady into heaven” Ricken said.
Pastors and parish staff personnel are preparing now for this return of the Sunday obligation, and various efforts are being undertaken to spread the word to area Catholics – and to invite them back to Church.
