East Branch Library Featured in American Libraries Design Showcase
The Brown County East Branch Library at 2253 Main Street, constructed and opened in 2023, is proud to announce it is featured in the September/October issue of American Libraries, as part of the magazine’s “2024 Library Design Showcase”.
The Design Showcase and accompanying slideshow can be viewed online HERE.
This annual feature celebrates the most impressive new or renovated libraries throughout North America, and the fresh ways in which these libraries meet the needs of the public in exciting ways.
“I’m pleased that a national publication recognizes our local efforts in Brown County to create a beautifully designed East Branch Library to be a modern learning space benefitting all ages,” said Brown County Executive Troy Streckenbach. “As libraries’ roles in the community continue to evolve, it’s important for future generations to have access to an exciting environment that can grow and serve them with the changing times.”
Brown County Library is one of only twelve libraries in the nation featured in the showcase. Spotlighted as a “Restoration Renovation”, the East Branch Library converted a former health club, that included a swimming pool, into a welcoming destination where people can connect to a variety of information resources, opportunities, and services. Designed by Somerville Architects & Engineers and constructed by Zeise Construction, both of Green Bay, the 16,500 sq. ft. building was renovated into an innovative and inviting community space.
The magazine’s write-up mentions several of the East Branch’s distinguishing features that were designed with the goal of serving the community effectively and efficiently, including a drive-up window, multiple study rooms, an enclosed fireplace, and a welcoming, fenced outdoor green space where library users can enjoy fresh air and sunshine, or a shaded spot covered by modern and attractive sunshades.
In addition to the American Libraries Design Showcase recognition, Somerville Architects & Engineers was awarded a Daily Reporter Top Projects Award for the remodel. The branch library also received a (Green Bay) Mayor’s Beautification Award. The library’s excellence in service to the residents of Brown County was recognized by the Wisconsin Library Association when it named Brown County Library 2023 Library of the Year.
