De Pere High School to Host 1st Ever Show Choir Competition

(De Pere, WI) – The stage is being set for the first annual De Pere High School Show Choir competition. Destination De Pere: Let’s Jam! will bring together 14 teams from across Wisconsin for a day of electric musical and dance performances combined with fierce competition. It all takes place on Saturday, February 1st, at De Pere High School.

Planning for this event has been a big undertaking for the Redbird Vocal Music Booster Club, but organizers say it’s been worth it.  “This is a big competition and a perfect way to show off the phenomenal talent of show choir teams throughout the state,” said Danica Kiedinger, co-president of the De Pere Vocal Music Booster Club. “We are expecting a few thousand people throughout the day to attend the event, which is exciting for the high school and the community.”

Local schools competing include Green Bay Southwest Spotlight Singers, Green Bay East Rhapsody in Red, Ashwaubenon Encore, New London Vision and Prebel Rendezvous and Center Stage.

Other schools competing include Burlington B*JAZZled, Mayville Cardinal Singers, Plymouth Momentum, Tomah Limited Edition, Colby Coalition and Hornettes Prep and Holman Midwest Express and Midwest Magic. De Pere High School’s own Jam Session and Chicago Street Singers will also perform.

While money raised from the event will go a long way to help support the entire De Pere Vocal Music program, Vocal Music Director, Anne Marie Cummings says it much more than that:

“It’s a way to shine a spotlight on music, band and theater and the students who have a passion for performing. There are some pretty amazing schools participating and they are just going to blow the crowd away.”

While planning for the event is on track, there are plenty of volunteer opportunities available and the community is welcome to sign up and help make the event a success.  Tickets for the event can be pre-purchased or bought at the door. Students are $10 for all day access, adults are $20 for all day access or $15 for either the morning or afternoon performances. Children under five are free.

The Redbird Vocal Music Booster Club is a 501(c)3 organization. Its purpose is to build and maintain an organization of parents/guardians which will help promote general activities and lend all possible support, both moral and financial to the Vocal Music department at De Pere High School.

De Pere High School is located at 1700 Chicago Street in De Pere.
