Animal Adoption ~ Is There Room in Your Heart and Home?
Did you know that many animals, once joyfully obtained as pets, end up either tied up outside, surrendered to animal shelters, or abandoned? It’s sad, but true.
Locally, the “Silver Lining” to this news can be found at the Wisconsin Humane Society – Green Bay Campus.
On January 1, 2018, the Bay Area Humane Society became a part of the Wisconsin Humane Society! Founded in 1879, the Wisconsin Humane Society (WHS) has been saving the lives of animals in need for nearly 140 years. WHS is a 501(c)(3) organization and operates shelters in Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Racine, Door and Brown Counties, as well as a spay/neuter clinic in West Allis. They receive no general government funding, and they are not part of any national umbrella organization.
The real question to ask yourself, if you’re thinking of bringing a dog, cat, or other animal into your life, is this: Is there room in my heart and home for a companion animal? If the answer is yes, the Wisconsin Humane Society makes animal adoption very easy and accessible.
The adoption process generally takes at least an hour and wait times can vary from 20 minutes to 3 hours during peak times. The adoption counselor will ask questions regarding your residence, family members living in the household, and other animals living in the home, to ensure the best match is made.
A great reason to adopt your dog, cat, or other pet from the Wisconsin Humane Society, is that by doing so you are giving a deserving animal a new lease on life:
According to Lori Nachtwey, Marketing Coordinator for the Green Bay Campus, “Adopting a rescue animal saves a life. All of the animals that come into the Wisconsin Humane Society (over 40,000) were either lost, surrendered, abandoned, or abused. We offer them a second chance at finding a new home where they can be loved and cared for. The Wisconsin Humane Society never euthanizes animals for reasons of space or time. All animals in our adoption program have as long as it takes to find a new home; there are no time limits in our adoption program. This is true for all our campuses.”
