Greater Green Bay Habitat for Humanity ~ ReStore ReOpening!

GREEN BAY, WI – Greater Green Bay Habitat for Humanity ReStore has announced that it will reopen on Tuesday, May 19, 2020. As a home improvement store, the Habitat ReStore is included as an essential business and provides merchandise needed to keep homes and businesses in working order.

Customers can expect a slightly different shopping experience at the ReStore. The store will have limited hours of operation Tuesdays through Saturdays from 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., and will limit the number of customers allowed in the store at one time. All staff and customers will be required to practice social distancing and remain six feet apart.

No-contact donation drop-offs will be accepted at the Bellevue location at 1967 Allouez Avenue Tuesdays through Saturdays, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. starting Tuesday, May 19th as well. For donations that are too large to fit into a donor’s vehicle to bring to the store, the ReStore offers curbside pickup by appointment only. Call (920) 338-1650 to arrange for a pickup. “With changes to store hours, limiting the number of customers, additional sanitation measures, social distancing, and modified store policies we are confident that we can safely resume operations,” said Maureen Meinhardt, ReStore Director. “We hope that we will be able to expand store hours as we move into the Summer but will only do so in a cautious, controlled manner. We truly appreciate all of the encouragement our community has given us and want to continue to serve our mission of building homes, communities, and hope in Brown County.”

Habitat for Humanity

Greater Green Bay Habitat for Humanity builds new construction homes in the Green Bay area and sells them to qualified families at no profit. The Habitat program provides benefits to our partner families and the Green Bay community. Families benefit from decent, affordable housing while the community benefits from the redevelopment of neighborhoods and an increase in tax revenue. The Habitat program does not give houses away. Families must spend “sweat equity” hours helping to build their home, pay a $900 down payment and make monthly mortgage payments. Habitat homes are build according to these three standard principles:

  1. Simple:
    Habitat houses are modestly-sized. They are large enough for the homeowner family’s needs, but small enough to keep construction and maintenance costs to a minimum.
  2. Decent:
    Habitat for Humanity uses quality, locally-available building materials. Habitat house designs reflect the local climate and culture.
  3. Affordable:
    The labor of volunteers and partner families, efficient building methods, modest house sizes and no-profit loans make it affordable for low-income families to purchase Habitat houses.

The first step in becoming a Habitat homeowner is to attend an informational Application Meeting. At the informational session, you will find out about our program, see what a typical Habitat home looks like, and learn how to accurately complete your application. Applicants and co-applicants must attend a meeting to receive an application; you will have 30 days from that date to turn in your completed application and required documents.  This meeting will take approximately 1 hour.  The application process takes approximately 60-90 days from the date Habitat receives your completed application. If you have additional questions or would like more information, please contact [email protected].
