Construction at Austin Straubel Airport Won’t Ground Your Vacation Plans
Now that another year of school is complete, families are eager to plan summer vacation trips which can include flying out of Green Bay Austin Straubel International Airport (GRB). While you prepare for your flight, keep in mind some of the construction projects happening in and around GRB.
“Our projects began in 2023 with repaving of our short-term parking area, which is complete, and sections of our long-term parking lot,” said Marty Piette, A.A.E, Airport Director. “The work was done in phases and we are now in the final phase of resurfacing for the long-term parking lot, which will be completed in June.”
In addition to the resurfacing projects, improvements included installing new, decorative perimeter security fencing and updating lighting in the parking area.
“As the resurfacing project approaches completion, installation will begin on new cantilevered canopies,” added Piette. “These will run along the ticketing and baggage claim entrances to provide additional cover for pedestrians while adding a fresh, modern look to the airport.”
Installation of the canopies may impact which doors travelers can enter and exit from. Travelers of GRB are asked to look for signage providing direction for which entrance/exit to use.
GRB is also making improvements to Runway 18/36. Work includes relining the Dutchmen Creek culvert and is anticipated to be completed by the end of the summer.
“These improvements will not interrupt any flight schedules as all flights will use Runway 6/24 during the interim,” explained Piette. “Area residents accustomed to our traditional flight patterns may notice the change in flight patterns. This is temporary until Runway 18/36 work is complete.”
GRB recommends factoring in an extra 10-15 minutes to navigate detours and orange barrels as you make your way to the airport to comfortably make your flight. If construction should impact GRB travelers, updates will be posted on the airports Facebook or X (formerly Twitter) accounts.
