UWGB Men’s Head Coach Sundance Wicks Named Finalist for Coach of The Year

As announced by collegeinsider.com, Green Bay Men’s Basketball Head Coach Sundance Wicks has been named as one of the 20 finalists for the 2024 Hugh Durham National Coach of the Year Award and one of 16 finalists of the 2023-24 Joe B. Hall National Coach of the Year Award.  Both awards will be announced in Phoenix, AZ, site of the men’s Division I Basketball Championship.

The Hugh Durham National Coach of the Year Award is presented annually to the top mid-major head coach in college basketball. Coaches of teams in the following conferences are eligible for the award: America East, ASUN, Big Sky, Big South, Big West, Coastal Athletic, CUSA, Horizon, Independents, Ivy, Metro Atlantic, Mid-American, MEAC, Missouri Valley, Northeast, Ohio Valley, Patriot, Southern, Southland, SWAC, Summit, Sun Belt, WAC, West Coast.

The Joe. B Hall Award is presented annually to the top rookie, first-year head coach in Division I college basketball.

Sundance Wicks authored one of the best year-to-year turnarounds in NCAA Division I history in his first year as Phoenix’s head coach. After a 3-29 season a year ago, Wicks turned the program around to an 18-14 record at the end of the 2023-24 season and was named the Horizon League Coach of the Year for his efforts. That 18-win mark is the third-most by a Phoenix head coach in their first year and is also the most regular season wins by GB since the 2016-17 season. It is just the second time a Green Bay coach has been named the Horizon League Coach of the Year, with the last being Brian Wardle in the 2013-14 season.
